Thanks for joining me!
Nintendo and US
This week was a very big milestone for the team. Back in December, the team had the dream of getting
Short Giraffe onto the Nintendo Switch. With everything in mind for this game, this seemed like a stretch goal. I have always pushed myself to go above and beyond the roles that I have been given. Last year, I worked on and released the first junior level VR game at Champlain with my team. This year I saw no better finished note than to get a game I worked on onto a major console.
Starting with the first week of winter break, I had one task; get
Short Giraffe onto the Switch. There were a number of steps to this process. This first and most daunting at the time was to get the studio recognized as a business in the State of Vermont. After a few hours of digging, I found out that all I needed was thirty minutes and $130. The process of forming the company was relatively easy and filing the taxes were easy enough. Without any revenue or assets we owed nothing until the next fiscal year.
The second step of the process was registering as a Nintendo developer. The reason we formed a company was so that we could get our entire group into the developer program. Due to the non declosure agreement I had to assign, I can’t really say what I saw. I can say that things were missing and that we had to apply to be on the Switch.
After talking to the Dev Support, I was told that we needed to compile a pitch that included our game and who we are. We need to prove that we could finish our game and deliver a finished product to market. This began our trial and error with trying to get onto the Switch. In my next blog I will talk more about the process we went through to pitch our game.
Till next time
